	Questo volume è un manuale teorico-pratico per le applicazioni delle indagini strumentali nel settore delle costruzioni edili, con particolare riferimento al risparmio energetico. Per ognuna delle tre tecniche principali esaminate (termografia, blower door, termo flussimetro), si forniscono prima le basi teoriche e normative e successivamente si illustrano le applicazioni pratiche in casi reali. Con oltre 200 immagini vengono fornite le basi scientifiche ed operative riguardanti la termografia a infrarossi, la permeabilità all’aria degli edifici e il blower door test, l’isolamento termico e le misure di trasmittanza con termoflussimetro. Ampio spazio è riservato alla disamina delle norme tecniche e alla descrizione delle modalità ottimali per l’esecuzione delle prove. Sono inoltre presentati: casi di intervento con problemi di isolamento e di infiltrazioni d’aria riscontrati su pareti, edifici e tetti in legno, serramenti, problemi di funzionamento di impianti di riscaldamento tradizionali ed a pavimento, di impianti fotovoltaici; interpretazioni delle immagini termiche e dell’esito delle prove; nozioni basilari di fisica tecnica ed indicazioni sulle corrette soluzioni progettuali e costruttive. Completano il libro cenni sulla prova endoscopica e sul riconoscimento dei diversi tipi di vetri, sempre con riferimento agli standard richiesti di efficienza energetica.
	Questo saggio si rivolge non solo a chi sia interessato o semplicemente incuriosito dalla tecnica delle indagini spettrali, ma anche a colui che che desidera ottenere delle informazioni da confrontare con quelle di cui è già in possesso, o voglia scoprire l’utilità che tali prove possono avere nell’ambito della conservazione del costruito. L’orizzonte sempre presente nel testo è l’esigenza di conoscere al meglio il manufatto da conservare, e di condividere le esperienze maturate nel campo del restauro mediante l’analisi multispettrale. La tesi che viene sviluppata è che la visione all’infrarosso non si limita ad essere uno strumento per percepire in modo alternativo la realtà degli oggetti; può diventare l’occasione per creare una innovativa modalità di pensiero sostenuta dalle capacità intuitive e analogiche che vengono stimolate dall’osservare, in una banda spettrale diversa dal visibile, un oggetto già noto dall’analisi a vista. Il testo riporta le procedure di prova e molti casi di studio che illustrano le principali applicazioni della tecnica all’edilizia storica; vi si trovano inoltre i necessari approfondimenti scientifici sui principi fisici basilari, ed i criteri dell’analisi economica che consentono di abbattere considerevolmente i costi, rendendo gli accertamenti applicabili anche al patrimonio diffuso.
